Education & Counseling

We host free, open-to-the-public classes and workshops that are key to improving financial health and successful homeownership. Our certified counselors can help you take control of your finances, qualify to buy a home, prevent foreclosure, or maintain your existing home.

Counseling

We offer two types of counseling: Housing Counseling (for those who want to buy a home or maintain their existing home) and Financial Counseling (for those who want to take control of their finances). Please contact Home@HabitatOrlando.org with any questions.

Housing Counseling

We provide free one-on-one housing counseling and guidance to  help you purchase a home (a small fee for a credit report may apply) or prevent foreclosure and maintain your existing home.

We are a HUD-approved housing counseling agency.

The Orange County Financial Empowerment Center is a public service that is available to anyone who lives or works in Orange County, Florida. Counselors can help you build financial stability by giving you the resources to budget and save, pay down debt, and boost your credit scores—at no cost.

Habitat U

Habitat U classes are free for everyone and are offered in-person in Orlando and Osceola County, as well as virtually. The advanced home maintenance class especially for Habitat homebuyers.

Home Insurance
  • Understand how much insurance you need and the cost of insurance.
  • How to shop for insurance and understand the difference in insurance policies, what they cover, and how to file a claim
Disaster Preparedness
  • Learn information needed before, during, and after disasters strike.
  • How to prepare for disasters, tips from the local Office of Emergency Management
  • Ensure that your home is protected and that you know what to do in the event of a disaster.
Community Engagement (Civics)
  • Learn about our rights, duties, and responsibilities as a member of a state or a community.
  • Learn to contribute to public processes & discussions of real issues.
  • Learn civic practices such as voting, volunteering, jury service, and joining with others to improve society.
