Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando & Osceola County is an official provider of Homebuyer Education Seminars, also known as First-time Homebuyer Workshops, for Orange County residents. Our workshop is designed to help you feel informed, prepared, and confident as you take the next step toward homeownership.

Through these programs, you may qualify for up to $70,000* to help reduce your mortgage. You’ll receive a certificate to use for down-payment assistance applications and your certificate can be used whether you buy through Habitat or the open market. 

*Down–payment assistance depends on program fund availability.

These workshops are free and open to all, whether you’re looking to purchase a home through Habitat or on the open market. This interactive workshop allows you to engage and ask questions. Attending a workshop is a requirement for applying to Orange County’s down-payment assistance program, which could qualify you for up to $70,000 in assistance, making it easier than ever to move forward. Don’t leave money on the table—find out what’s available to you today.

What is the First-time Homebuyer Workshop?

The First-time Homebuyer Workshop is a HUD‑approved, 8‑hour educational seminar provided by Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando & Osceola County. It is designed to help first‑time buyers understand the homebuying process and prepare them for homeownership. 

Who can attend the workshop?

Our workshop is free and open to everyone 18 and older whether you plan to purchase a home through Habitat for Humanity or on the open market. 

Is there a cost to attend?

No. All workshops are completely free!

How long is the workshop?

The workshop is 8 hours and must be completed in full to receive a certificate. 

Are the workshops offered in Spanish?

Yes. Workshops are offered in both English and Spanish.

Are workshops held in person or online?

Both options are available. You can choose the format that works best for you. 

What documents are needed from me?

You will need to provide the following via a secure link that will be sent to your email: 

  • A valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license, state ID, or passport 
  • Proof of address if the address on your ID does not match where you currently live. Examples include: 
    • Lease agreement 
    • Utility bill 
    • State award letter 
    • Other official mail showing your current address 
            Will I receive a certificate?

            Yes. After completing the full workshop, you will receive a certificate of completion. This certificate can be used when applying for down‑payment assistance programs.

            Why is the certificate important?

            Attending this workshop is a requirement to apply for Orange County’s down‑payment assistance program, which could qualify you for up to $70,000 in assistance* to help reduce your mortgage—whether you buy through Habitat or on the open market. 

            *Down‑payment assistance is subject to program fund availability. 

            Is this workshop required to purchase a home through Habitat for Humanity?

            The workshop is not limited to Habitat homeowner applicants and is open to all. However, it is a required step for those applying for certain housing and assistance programs, including Orange County down‑payment assistance. 

            How do I sign up?
