For Howard Abell, supporting Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando & Osceola County is about more than building homes. It’s about building children’s futures.
“Getting young people in a better environment where they do have a home, in a relatively safe area, they can live more of a normal life like everybody else,” he said.
Abell spent over 40 years in the heavy construction industry. Before he “semi-retired” a few years ago, he owned and operated Advantage Construction Equipment & Parts.
The Kentucky native started supporting Habitat Orlando & Osceola shortly after he moved to Central Florida 14 years ago.
He says Habitat is helping to fulfill a need in the community that few nonprofits focus on – helping people build strength, stability and independence through new homeownership, homeowner education and home repair programs.
“It’s important that we produce affordable housing so that everybody can live the American Dream,” Abell said.
Habitat does not give homes away but sells them at fair-market value. Its programs are made possible by grants and donors such as Abell, who is committed to helping others have the same opportunities that he had.
“I’ve been fortunate to live in a home and have all those things that others may not be able to afford,” he said, “and if we want this world to be a better place, we have to give those opportunities to everyone.”
You can help more local families experience the peace and freedom of owning an affordable home. When you donate to Habitat Orlando & Osceola, every dollar helps us build homes and work toward a world where everyone has a safe and affordable place to live. You can impact lives through homeownership; please give today.
