This month, Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando & Osceola County hosted more than two dozen teenagers for our inaugural Habitat U Youth Summit.
During the event, generously sponsored by PNC with support from United Foundation of Central Florida and Central Florida Foundation’s Table Talk Microgrant, 30 high school students spent a portion of their Saturday gaining invaluable knowledge about financial literacy and community engagement.
From how to balance a budget to how our local, state and federal governments function, students ages 14 to 19 learned important lessons and skills to better prepare for their futures.
Several children of Habitat Orlando & Osceola homeowners were also in attendance, ready to use their parents’ experience as a springboard for their own successes.
Parents who stayed to observe the presentation said they’re excited to spread the word about our next Youth Summit in September with their school PTAs to help reach even more students in our community. Students attending the March session came from a variety of schools across Central Florida, including Evans, Edgewater and Orlando Science high schools.
