Tannique stands on the brink of achieving a lifelong goal.
The call center leader, military reservist, and cybersecurity student will add another title to her name — homeowner — after PCL Construction builds her home during Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando & Osceola County’s Builders Blitz 2025.
She can’t wait to have a stable place to call her own and an affordable mortgage.
“I am excited for the bright future that lies ahead for me and my family,” she said. “Today, I stand proud — not only for what I’ve achieved but for the legacy of determination and courage I continue to build for my children.”
Growing up, Tannique lived in a modest rental home. She said her parents worked tirelessly to provide for their children. When Tannique welcomed her daughter, she found her greatest motivation. She enrolled in college, balancing work, school, and parenting to achieve her goals.
“My sister and I became the first in our family to graduate from both high school and college, a milestone that made us all proud,” she said. She went on to earn a master’s degree and multiple promotions.
Tannique experienced divorce and homelessness, but she didn’t give up. She found work at a call center and joined as a reservist in the military, which provided additional stability and the opportunity to serve her new country.
She turned to Habitat Orlando & Osceola’s homeownership program to find stability in housing. She said the Habitat U courses, which range from financial literacy to home maintenance, have been very informative and that her mother attended the First-time Homebuyer Workshop and found it “eye opening.”
“I’ve learned things that make me feel like an expert,” she said.
Tannique looks forward to having a stable environment where her toddler son and mother can thrive. For her, owning a home represents stability, security, and a foundation for building generational wealth.
“To me, my home is a sanctuary—a place where I feel safe and can build a strong foundation for my family,” she said.
As a homeowner, she will be able to focus on graduating and building her career. She is finishing another degree – this one in cybersecurity.
“My vision for the future is to become a cybersecurity expert and advance my career in protecting our nation’s borders through my service in the military,” she said.
She hopes that one day she will open her own business and provide jobs to those in need.
As she prepares to close on her Habitat home, Tannique feels a profound sense of gratitude.
“Thank you for giving me hope and bringing me closer to this goal of homeownership,” she said.
