
After years long journey to homeownership, Habitat homeowner urges other: ‘Don’t give up’

Liz said she’s grateful to the staff, volunteers and fellow homebuyers who have helped physically build her future house, and to Orlando Magic for sponsoring her home.
Tina achieved an ambitious goal: to own her own home by her 50th birthday. Her home also marked a major milestone for us: It was the final one built in Silver Pines Pointe community, consisting of 58 affordable homes.
Nikita said she couldn’t find a safe home that was also affordable on the open market. That’s when her sister reminded her about Habitat for Humanity.
Future homeowner Margarita said what she’s most looking forward to about purchasing her Habitat home is the additional time it will allow her to spend with her family.
Joselyn, who works in records retrieval for a local cancer institute, was shocked when she found out that her home would be built in two weeks. “Right now, it’s just a pile of dirt,” she said. “And one day soon, we’ll be stepping foot in there and just making all kinds of memories.”
