Habitat homeowner Veronica knows firsthand the role housing can play in a family’s health.
Living with mobility issues makes her hyperaware of how what may seem like small adjustments to a house can make it a safer home. Williams Company, which built her family’s home as part of Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando & Osceola County’s annual Home for the Holidays build, kept that in mind as they completed her home.
“I can’t thank you enough for going the extra mile for my safety. It’s going to change everyday life for me,” she said.
This year marked the sixth consecutive year of partnership between Williams Company and Habitat Orlando & Osceola, and this year’s home in Holden Heights is the seventh one built by Williams Company and their subcontractors and vendors as part of the event.
At Habitat Orlando & Osceola, we know that housing is the cornerstone of community progress. Housing is where health is nurtured, education is strengthened, and opportunities are unlocked. Veronica, her partner Marc, and their three children, ages 13, 3 and 2, are looking forward to seeing those benefits firsthand after closing on their home.
Marc said he’s excited for the home to provide stability and safety for their family.
Veronica said they are excited to live in a one-story house with a yard that they own, instead of a rental with stairs, no outdoor space and raising costs. She said having the living space all on one floor will help her avoid injury and keep her children safe. And being in a home that they own, she said, will help provide much dreamed of stability: “A place where I belong and no one can change it.”
Veronica and Marc are excited to provide a foundation for their family to build their future.
“It makes me feel more in control of my own life,” Veronica said.
Veronica said despite her great credit history, she didn’t think homeownership was going to be possible for her, until a banker referred her to Habitat. Now, she’s already sharing word about the program with her community, encouraging her best friend to apply to purchase a Habitat home.
“I can’t wait to inspire others and let that joy inspire me,” she said.
Marc and Veronica celebrated closing on the purchase of their brand new affordable home with a festive celebration to conclude our annual Home for the Holidays event. Thanks to Williams Company and their subcontractors and vendors, for their donated the time, labor, and materials to build their seventh Habitat home for this local family!
